This website provides an insight into the long and glorious history of The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment. Known as the Tigers, it is the infantry regiment of choice for London and the South East of England.
This website is designed to cater for the needs of a variety of audiences, whether academic, military historian or those who just have a casual interest.
Formed on the 9th of September 1992, the anniversary of the Battle of Salerno, the Regiment was created on the amalgamation of The Queen's Regiment and The Royal Hampshire Regiment. It is the proud inheritor of a long history dating back to the very earliest beginnings of the British Army. It traces its origins and seniority back to 1661 to the raising of the 2nd or Tangier Regiment of Foot, although there are connections back to Tudor times under Elizabeth I.
Its long history means that the Regiment has accumulated a unique collection of military artefacts, many of which are priceless. This online military museum showcases some of the iconic items owned by the Regiment and events which provide examples of the Officers' and Soldiers' tenacity, resolution and courage.
